Sierra Club Endorses Richard Holober for Assembly

Environmental group cites his efforts to crack down on polluters, reduce global warming

(Burlingame, CA) The Sierra Club - the best-known and most-trusted environmental organization in the nation - announced that it has endorsed Richard Holober for State Assembly.

In making its endorsement, the Sierra Club recognized Holober's successful efforts to crack down on corporate polluters, and his leadership in the fight to reduce global warming through sustainable building design practices.

"Richard Holober is an effective champion for the environment," said Sierra Club California Director Bill Magavern, "We at the Sierra Club support Richard Holober for Assembly because of his successful efforts to crack down on corporate polluters - and his leadership in the effort to reduce global warming."

As Executive Director of the Consumer Federation of California Holober worked to make sure corporate polluters not only are fined for their actions, but are also required to pay for the clean-up and restoration when they harm the environment.

As President of the San Mateo County Community College District, Holober made sure that the College District became a pioneer in environmental "green building" construction practices. Last week Holober accepted the 2008 Sustainable San Mateo County Award on behalf of the Community College District, for leadership in building award-winning, environmentally sustainable college classroom facilities.

"The only way we can effectively reduce global warming is if we set the example in our own backyard," Holober stated. "Our Community College District has gone the extra mile to reduce greenhouse gases and carbon emissions at College of San Mateo, Skyline College and CaƱada College. We have reduced our energy consumption by 56%, which is good for the planet and also saves taxpayers a million dollars a year."

"The fact that I'm supported for State Assembly by both the Sierra Club and U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer sends the message to voters that I'm an environmental leader who will fight to protect of air, water, coast and precious natural resources," Holober continued. "I'm proud to be the only candidate endorsed by both of these environmental giants."
