LT. GOVERNOR JOHN GARAMENDI ENDORSES RICHARD HOLOBER FOR ASSEMBLYPRESS RELEASE
(Burlingame, CA) Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi today announced his endorsement of Democrat Richard Holober for the 19th State Assembly District in San Mateo County. The primary election is scheduled for June, 2008. John Garamendi stated, "When I served as State Insurance Commissioner, I worked side-by-side with Richard Holober in the fight for quality, affordable health care for all Californians. Richard will be an excellent Assemblymember because he has the courage to stand up to the lobbyists, and put the interests of the people first." Richard Holober is the Executive Director of the Consumer Federation of California. He has helped to win laws that improve the quality of care of HMO patients and residents of nursing homes, and has campaigned to reign in skyrocketing health insurance premiums and to limit the power of insurers to deny coverage for life-saving procedures. Richard Holober also serves as the President of the San Mateo County Community College District. He has won three county wide elections to the Community College Board, winning in 2005 with 82,700 votes. He previously served as an elected member of the Millbrae School Board. John Garamendi joins a growing list of Democratic leaders that have endorsed Richard Holober in the 19th Assembly District race, including US Senator Barbara Boxer, State Controller John Chiang, former Controller Steve Westly, and eleven members of the state legislature. The California Teachers Association, The California Nurses Association, the Sierra Club, The California Federation of Teachers, SEIU State Council and over 50 unions and over 30 local elected officials in the 19th Assembly District have also endorsed Richard Holober. Richard Holober and his wife Nadia live in Millbrae, where they have raised their two sons, Reuben and Evan.
